Youth and Family Calendar

July 5-6, Thursday and Friday
Youth Beach Retreat

All youth are invited to join Pastor Lewis at Rehoboth Beach for a two day retreat. We will have plenty of time for the beach and to visit the boardwalk. Cost will be $20 a person. We will leave the church parking lot at 8:30 AM on Thursday.

Water Park in Bohrer Park

Family Movie at The Majestic in Silver Spring - CHARLOTTE'S WEB (2006 live action)
This is the first of several mid-week kid friendly, youth inviting, parent entertaining movie events this summer. We will meet in the lobby of the Majestic Theater in Silver Spring located at 900 Ellsworth Drive (only 15 minutes from the church) to watch this award winning film. Tickets are only $1 and there are special prices on certain items at the concession stand as well. Everyone is invited. See the “Family Movies” write-up below for more information.

July 22 - 28
Chi Rho Youth Work Camp
Emmanuel will have a team attending the Metro D.C. Synod’s Youth Work Camp, Chi Rho, in Neon, Kentucky. We will be leaving the church at 6:15 AM on Sunday, July 22 and return on Saturday, July 28 around 6:30 PM. We ask all those not attending the work camp to keep us in your prayers.

Family Movie at The Majestic in Silver Spring - WALLACE & GROMIT
This is the second of several mid-week kid friendly, youth inviting, parent entertaining movie events this summer. We will meet in the lobby of the Majestic Theater in Silver Spring located at 900 Ellsworth Drive (only 15 minutes from the church) to watch this Oscar winning film. Tickets are only $1 and there are special prices on certain items at the concession stand as well. Everyone is invited. See the “Family Movies” below.

Ice Skating
Everyone of all ages is invited to join us as we gather at the Cabin John Ice Rink at 10610 Westlake Drive near the Montgomery Mall. See write up below for more information.

Fun Bunch Lunch
We will have a Potluck Fun Bunch Lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share as well have a time for sharing and talk about events for the fall.

This wonderful film is free at the outdoor area of the Strathmore located at 10701 Rockville Pike. Bring a blanket or low beach chair to enjoy the film. Youth Day Trip to Rehoboth Beach
All youth are invited to this day trip to Rehoboth Beach. Bring your bathing suits, towels a change of dry clothes and money for snacks and a fast food dinner. We have the privilege to be able to use the facilities at Epworth Methodist Church a block from the Boardwalk to store our stuff and take showers before heading home. We will leave the church at 8 AM and return around 8:30 PM. Contact Pastor Lewis if you would like to attend.

Washington Symphonic Brass
July 11, Wednesday, 7:00 PM

This free concert is comprised of performers from many of the region's most outstanding orchestras playing a repertoire of pieces written for brass ensemble. The concert begins at 7 PM, but you are invited bring a snack to share and join Pastor Lewis with a pre-concert bite to eat around 6:15 PM. Look for him in his orange shirt and hat.


Family Water Fun

Water Park in Bohrer Park

Everyone is invited for a great day of water fun at the Water Park in Bohrer Park. The park is located at 512 S Frederick Ave (Rt 355) in Gaithersburg. Besides the main pool having a zero-depth entry, making it accessible to all – there is also a kiddie pool. One of the major attractions at The Water Park is the double water slide that is 250 feet long and twists and turns into the pool. There is also a mini-golf course next to the water park if you want to try your putting skills.

There is food and snacks available at the pool, but you can also bring your own cooler (no glass please). There is plenty of shade to get out of the sun as well as plenty of sunny spots to work on that tan.

A day pass for children and youth (1-17) is $5, adults $6.75 and Seniors (55+) is $5.50. The price is even less if you are a resident of Gaithersburg. There is also a Putt-n-Pool pass for $8.50 that includes a game of mini-golf.

FAMILY MOVIES
July 18, August 1, August 7 & August 14

Come out and watch some of the best G and PG movies in the last few years. All of these mid-week kid friendly, youth inviting, parent entertaining movie are at 10 AM in one of two local theaters. Meet Pastor Lewis in the lobby at 9:45 AM.

Our first two films will on Wednesdays at the Majestic Theater in Silver Spring which is only 15 minutes from the church. The Majestic Theater is located at 900 Ellsworth Drive.

On Wednesday, July 18 we will watch CHARLOTTE'S WEB at the Majestic Theater to watch this award winning film. Tickets are only $1 and there are special prices on certain items at the concession stand as well.

On Wednesday, August 1 we will watch WALLACE & GROMIT at the Majestic Theater to watch this Oscar winning film. Tickets are only $1 and there are special prices on certain items at the concession stand as well.

The last two films will be on Tuesdays at the Germantown Stadium 14 Theater in Germantown at 20000 Century Blvd. (only 15 minutes from the church).

On Tuesday August 7 we will watch that great Muppet movie, MUPPETS FROM SPACE. Tickets are free, so get there early.

On Tuesday August 14 we will watch the Oscar winning film HAPPY FEET. Again, tickets are free, so get there early.


FAMILY ICE SKATING
August 5, Sunday 4:30 PM
CABIN JOHN ICE RINK
10610 Westlake Drive

Cool off and have a “kwel” time as we gather at the Cabin John Ice Rink for skating. Everyone of all ages are invited. Admission for children is $5 and Adults are $6. Don’t have ice skates? Rent either regular skates or hockey skates for $3 (plus tax). The rink is located at Cabin John Ice Rink at 10610 Westlake Dr. near the Montgomery Mall.

Look for Pastor Lewis in the area near the skate rentals. Also keep an eye on him as he attempts a double (which means going around the rink twice without falling down).



MOVIES UNDER THE STARS AT THE STRATHMORE
AUGUST 10, 13 & 17

Everyone is invite to meet at the Strathmore (10701 Rockville Pike) for three nights of movie under the stars. We will meet in the outdoor area starting at 7:45 PM so we can find a place to sit together. Remember to bring either a blanket or low beach chair to enjoy the film. Your are also invited to bring a snack to share starting around 8 PM. The film starts at 8:30 PM.

Parking is located in the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Garage off Tuckerman Lane. Parking in the garage is $4 Monday-Friday, and must be paid using a Metro SmarTrip card, available for a fee at all Metro Stations. Limited short-term parking is also available at specially marked meters along Tuckerman Lane.

You can also take the metro to the Grosvenor-Strathmore station.
